Summer Learning Journey

LI: To celebrate our success and reflect on our Summer Learning Journey.

On Friday last week , PBS celebrated all the students that participated in the SLJ. Over the summer holidays students have been working on creating DLO’s the topic on 2025 – 2026 SLJ is Critters and Creatures. Each day we learnt about different creatures and post them on our blog showing all the facts we know about them. I am really happy that I participated this year and learnt all the different things about animals I knew and didn’t. One thing I found really interesting was that there were different types of creatures that I never heard in my life and I am really grateful to have the oppurtunity to learn it now.

Bug Treasure Hunt – Step it up

LI : Discover facts about the bugs you have hunted!

For this weeks SLJ I created a poster to show at least 5  facts each about the bugs you pick and what they can do and show what their daily routine is everyday so basically like their natural habitat. One interesting thing I learnt about this task is that a pray mantis can rotate their head 180 degrees for a better view of anything that comes near, I really enjoyed this task because it helps me learn about bugs and their special features.

Pekapeka Roosting Locally – Step it up

LI : Desgin a pekapeka bat roost

For today’s task I was challenge to design a home for bats to hide from their predators and to keep them safe at night and in daylight where they usually don’t go out sometimes. The reason why this bat roost design I made is good for bats to hide from predators hunting them because It looks difficult for them to figure out where they are and if they are too big they can fit.

Mokomoko Manor – Kick Start

LI : Design a space to attract lizards into your garden.

For today’s I was challenged to create a drawing of a space to attract lizards into my garden  , I drew Mokomoko garden and labelled them to help you guys know what is what and show all the features I added. I used Google Drawing , shapes and line tools to help me to draw this Mokomoko , One interesting thing I learnt about my Mokomoko garden is that this garden is suppose to attract lizards to come in and stay safe and protected from other animals who tend to harm them.

Kea Conservatuonists – Step it up

LI: Design a Kea-proof container!

For this weeks task I was challenged to create a kea proof container for miniature kea’s to keep them safe and sound. One interesting thing I really enjoyed about this task is to provide jars for kea’s who are indangered and save them , I really liked this task because It helps me to learn more about kea’s and their natural habitat. I labeled all the stuff based on the jar to help people who sees this and show all the features.

Magical Horses – Step it up

LI : Draw an Alicorn or Pegasus

For this task I drew a Alicorn which is a mythical horse and draw it on paper to test our drawing skills and to learn about the creature you pick. One interesting I learnt about this task is that the Alicorn are known to have horns like unicorns and their horns are known to have Google like and are spirited.

Dragon Explorers – Step it up

LI : You’re an explorer…create a postcard sharing your adventures searching for dragons.

For this task I was challenged to create a dragons poster and tell all the facts I learnt about the dragon of my choice and to create a collage of a bunch of photos of dragons and what they look like and all the features they have on them. One interesting thing I learnt about a dragon is that dragons lives in caves and other guards piles of gold and I really enjoyed this task because I had all my facts I could share on my poster.

Dragon Explorers – Kick Start

LI : Design and create a digital dragon postage stamp.

For this task I created a post card with a dragon of my choice on it . The point of this task is to learn about dragons and the will come on the step it up. One intresting thing I learnt about this task is that of course dragons are a well known mythical creature and are known to have wings and have the power to breath out fire some other powers. I liked doing this task because I got to learn more about dragons.

Mountain Stone Weta – Step it up

LI : Design your own creature that can live in the extreme cold, inspired by Bigfoot, a yeti or even an abominable snowman!

For this task I was challenged to create a creature that can survive in the cold basically create mythical creature that is similar like bigfoot or a yeti which is a myth but still people still seem to have seen one before but for my creature I created on Craiyon which can create anything you type in the search bar on the site. For my creature I combined the looks of a yeti and big foot and put it together to see what it will look like but still. It’s name is Wendigo which means a spirit with a icy heart and assicoted with blizzards. To be honest instead of going more like do a winter weta I went to change it to a more yeti just to be more creative.

Mosaic Creatures of the Pacific – Step it up

LI : Create a mythical mosaic!

For this weeks task I was challenged to create a mythical mosaic which means you can create a creature of your own and add your own patterns any patterns you want I based it off of the Pacific culture and did a star fish and added korus and many other Polynesian ideas.
